Physical activity is an excellent way of promoting and developing
young people’s social and personal values in a
current setting characterised by promoting physical activity
due to its multiple benefits. The objective of this study
is to identify the values associated with satisfaction with
physical activity in the adolescent population. The sample
consisted of 401 young people from various regions in
Spain. Schwartz’s PVQ scale was applied to the participants
through a self-administered online questionnaire. The data
were analysed by exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis
and a multiple regression model. The results indicate
that the values of hedonism, achievement and benevolence
give them greatest satisfaction. Values such as tradition and
self-direction and stimulation have an average relevance to
the relationship and satisfaction with physical activity because
they are more associated with a lively lifestyle. As a
result, the dimension of openness to change becomes more
important. This is important information in sports psychology,
where the values associated with physical activity have
hardly been analysed.
Auditing the Marketing and Social Media Communication of Natural Protected Areas. How Marketing Can Contribute to the Sustainability of Tourism
Natural Protected Areas face the challenge of conciliating attractions with satisfaction
of their different stakeholders without compromising their own resources. Marketing can play an
important role to this challenge from a macromarketing perspective. No studies are found in the
literature on the integral assessment of marketing practices in Natural Protected Areas. For the
first time, it proposes a marketing audit in Natural Protected Areas to fill that gap applying the
Importance-Performance Analysis matrix, useful in strategic decisions, through interviews with
directors of Natural Protected Areas. The main strengths, weaknesses, and deficits in the application
of marketing are identified. The presence of a restricted and biased attitude towards marketing was
noted among directors. In addition, the marketing behaviour is studied in two of the main social
networks (Twitter/Facebook), comparisons were established in the USA, Spain, Italy and Mexico,
identifying behavioural profiles in five groups in accordance with the 26 indicators under analysis
Auditing Marketing and the Use of Social Media at Ski Resorts
Mountain and snow tourism are sectors of immense social and economic importance
that are developed in an especially sensitive environmental context. A large part of this tourism
is channeled through ski resorts. The literature on comparative studies of ski-resort management
and, in particular, on marketing management, is limited. This study contributes knowledge on
the application of marketing practiced at ski resorts. For the first time, an audit of marketing at
ski resorts is performed through a quantitative survey at resorts in two countries (Spain and Italy).
The importance–performance analysis (IPA) is used, which identifies both the strong and the weak
points and the great deficits of marketing management at ski resorts from the perspective of their
directors, to whom the questionnaire was addressed. The social media usage of the ski-stations
is also analyzed, identifying different typologies of resorts in accordance with their performance
against 11 indicators from Twitter and 15 from Facebook. Knowing the opinion of the visitors,
the online and competitive strategy, and adapting to the legislative changes are the aspects to which
the directors attach greater importance. The greatest deficits were linked to employee motivation
and communication (internal and non-integrated). There are minor differences in Twitter and
Facebook indicators between Spanish and Italian ski resorts. The turnover results of the ski resorts
present more correlation with Facebook indicators than with Twitter ones. This analysis provides
recommendations and implications for the management of ski resorts in the six dimensions of
marketing under consideration. It, likewise, offers knowledge of the social-media-related behavior of
resorts that are leaders on both Twitter and Facebook, for benchmarking purposes
ABSTRACT
The universities apply marketing measures in their management. The adoption of marketing practices has been a response to the many political, technological and social changes (as well as increased competition and globalization) affecting the world of higher education. In this paper the state of the question about marketing management at the university is reviewed. The goal is to understand the emergence and evolution of these practices in college and establish a conceptual model. People, processes, capabilities, quality (premium) and projection (image): five variables within the university marketing are proposed. In addition a model of Marketing 3.0 to serve to guide the direction of marketing within the higher education sector is proposed. Equal Opportunities in an Inclusive and Sustainable Education System: An Explanatory Model
Equal opportunities is an objective to be achieved in a sustainable society, as formulated
by various sustainable development objectives. Inclusive education refers to the right of all people
to education, guaranteeing the presence, participation, and progress of all students and, above all,
equal opportunities. However, today, it is a dual and controversial issue, as it appears among the
strategies and objectives planned at international and European levels, but its application and real
development is still far from being a right with guarantees. Moreover, the concept of integration
remains in most areas and many education policies. Therefore, the objective of this work is to
establish which integration and inclusion measures favor equal opportunities. The study offers,
as a major novelty, the results of empirical research, which provides a scientific framework to
this process of equal opportunities. It is approached from the perspective of teaching staff with
a sample of 133 professionals. The results are analyzed through factorial analysis and multiple
linear regression. The results show that the aspects related to inclusion (measures of attention to
diversity, high knowledge about inclusion, and adapting the system to inclusion) have a significant
positive effect. The integration of students reduces equal opportunities in a statistically significant
way. The results are of interest for educational policies and for decision-making and strategies to
achieve sustainability and inclusion in the school environment
We present a consolidated model in this study of both the consequences and the antecedents of satisfaction that are determinative of the formation of loyalty in the university sector. In addition to testing the model, we evaluate the differences found in the relations between the motives given by the graduates for their choices (vocation and career paths) and their current employment situation (employed or unemployed). Grounded on the literature, we propose the conceptual model and test it with PLS supported by a sample of 9,685 graduates of all branches of knowledge whose answers were collected through a self-administered online questionnaire. The results highlight that perceived value determines image, satisfaction and loyalty, as well as the causal relation between image and both satisfaction and loyalty. The vocation and employement determine in a significant way the impact of the value on the image while the career options do not produce differences. Given the competitive world of Higher Education, the conclusions may assist directors and managers of Higher Education institutions in decision-making, as well as improving graduate satisfaction and loyalty and the reputation of the university
Academic rankings and the distribution by gender of the universities
tienen mayores puntuaciones medias.
This paper examines the distribution of the universities by gender through a percentage of women within the
student body, and checks if such distribution has any relation to the position of the universities in the university rankings.
Seven rankings, have been selected, both global and synthetic, and a joint database collecting all data on gender
distribution of students from 924 universities was created. The results confirm that universities with a more balanced
distribution between men and women receive higher scores and, therefore, better ranking positions. The universities
with the highest female presence in the students are those with the highest ratio of students per teacher and those
with the highest average scores in internationalization indicators. In the indicators of Nobel prizes, Fields medals, and
income from the industry, those universities with the highest male presence have higher average scores. These results
can contribute to the improvement of equality policies in universities, as well as to guide the strategic and management
decisions
The Campus of International Excellence (CIE) initiative was launched in Spain in 2009. Among its objectives was to improve the position of Spanish universities in international rankings by 2015. The present work analyses the impact of CIEs on the ARWU–Shanghai Academic Ranking. The comparison between the average across the first three years of the CIE initiative (2009–11) and the last three (2013–15) reveals that the Spanish university system has notably improved its research performance, judging by the increase in average scores and the hike in positions. Universities coordinating CIE projects present a more stable evolution (an increase of 9% in scientific output) than those that don’t (increase of 21%), resulting in a more homogeneous university system. Institutions with CIE projects comprising a single university achieve better positions in the rankings. Despite the context of the economic crisis, a tight timeframe and limited funding for the CIE initiative, the experience is found to have been positive in view of the evolution of Spanish universities in these rankings.
This study proposes the elaboration of a meta-ranking, including the 14 Spanish universities which appear in at least four of the five global rankings considered in this study, that are some of the world’s most influential. It is necessary to differentiate between research rakings that use bibliometric data and rankings that take into account other aspects and other forms of data collection, basically based on surveys. Spanish universities attain better positions in the first group. The investigation highlighted that the higher weaknesses we can find are in the internationalization, the reputation or in the student-teacher ratio. The one exception is for universities that stand out in the two dimensions. Regarding the outcome, there is an evident need for a greater internationalisation, to improve the reputation of the higher education institutions and to enhance the international visibility of the Spanish universities
